About Me

Like most women, I wear many hats - I’m a business owner, a wife and a mother, but I'm firstly a woman on a life-long journey to achieving my own personal OHM, while helping other women do the same.

I spent many years trying to figure out what and how to eat.  I tried many diets, and I succumbed to many fads and trends along the way.

It has taken me a lot of trial and correction, a trip back to school, major life changes and a lot of self-introspection and deep healing to finally find balance with my eating habits, feel confident in my food choices and good in my own body.

If I’ve learned anything on this journey it’s that challenges in the way you nourish and care for yourself aren’t just about knowing what to eat and can’t be solved by that alone.

A deep connection to and a love for self are essential.

My mission is to educate you to make healthier choices, for their inherent benefits, and NOT to achieve perfection in the way you eat, look and behave.

I empower you to connect with yourself on a deeper level, shift your mindset and to love yourself enough to prioritize your needs, not because you are selfish, but because you deserve it.

I blend the art and science of human behaviour change, evidence based nutrition principles and mindful & intuitive eating and lifestyle practices to guide you on your journey, at your own pace and on your own terms.

What I’ve learned…

01

Diets don’t work, long term because they weren’t meant to. Whether it be a food group restriction, intermittent fasting, calorie counting or tracking macros or points, it’s a crutch.

02

Healthy eating isn’t one size fits all; you have to figure out what works for your unique body with a mindful yet compassionate approach that is grounded in evidence based nutrition principles AND your unique experiences.

03

An all or nothing mindset isn’t healthy and won’t help you cultivate healthy habits that are sustainable long term. This black and white thinking leads to shame, guilt, judgement and criticism.

04

Nourishing your body well isn’t as complicated as you’ve been led to believe once you understand the basic fundamentals of nutrition, you strengthen your hunger and satiety cues and your ability to decipher what your body really needs in any moment.

05

Trauma and stress impact everything from your relationship with your body and food and your health outcomes in adulthood - but that doesn’t make you a victim of your circumstances because you have agency over your life and choices.

My Philosophy On Wellness

it can’t be found in a fad diet

The power of the mind-body connection can’t be denied or overlooked when we talk about wellness. True lasting wellness can be achieved when and only when we are able to trust our innate wisdom and cultivate habits that serve our own personal needs, on our own terms and at our own pace. It isn’t one size fits all and it isn’t found in a diet, fad or trend. It all starts with listening to your body and knowing what works for you.

it’s not just about food

What we eat is important; how we eat, why we eat and how we live our lives are equally important. A macronutrient balanced, simple, natural, local, seasonal, whole food, plant centric approach to nutrition has been proven to support general health and wellbeing and to prevent/improve certain health conditions; and yet, more often than not, it’s not enough to achieve true lasting wellness, unless you address other lifestyle factors as well.

it’s not just physical

Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our physical wellbeing. Wellness is multidimensional in nature and involves so much more than what we eat and how we look and feel physically . It’s a complex interrelationship between our physical, mental and emotional state of wellbeing and it’s impacted by all facets of our life.

How I Got Here

I had worked my way up the corporate ladder, met every career goal I had set for myself and I was living the professional “dream” I had envisioned growing up, but I was exhausted and unfulfilled by my work.

In 2011, I got married and migrated to Italy. It was the change I needed and a chance to start over. Not knowing what to do next, I started teaching English. The freedom from corporate life felt amazing and there was no turning back.

Around the same time, I began experiencing psoriatic arthritis flare ups. Doctors recommended anti-inflammatory medications for life and it didn’t feel right to me.

On the advice of a friend, I found a macrobiotic counselor, took some cooking courses and revolutionized my eating habits. Within a month, my arthritic psoriasis was in remission, my skin patches barely even noticeable and all I had done was change how and what I eat.

The experience not only helped me understand my body better, it also solidified my passion for whole foods and ignited my curiosity for the inner workings of the human body and nutrition. So I went back to school in my late 30’s and got certified as a Holistic Nutritionist.

Unfortunately, all of this transformation and education came with a price tag. I had grown up in the 90’s and was no stranger to body dysmorphia, yo yo dieting and a complicated relationship with nourishing myself. What should have been a turn for the better in the way I nourished my body quickly became a trade in - diet culture narrative in the name of thinness for an unhealthy preoccupation with “eating healthy” and food fear.

The turning point

When I became a mama, I quickly realized how consumed I had been with my health and how toxic my relationship with food had become. The last thing I wanted was to pass this neurosis on to my daughter.

That’s when the real transformation began for me, my business and my clients.

On this journey, I’ve lived, I’ve learned and I’ve morphed and transformed in countless ways. I’ve found balance with my eating habits, confidence in my food choices and learned to care about my health and what I eat without letting it consume me. I make healthy choices for their inherent benefits, and out of respect and love for my body and I have found freedom through mindful eating and lifestyle practices.

I’ve made it my mission to help other women pave their own path to true lasting wellness. Through my private and group coaching and the work I do with other wellness professionals, I motivate and empower women to take charge of their own health and wellbeing by teaching them the essential first step: how to reconnect to and reawaken their innate wisdom, so they can start learning to listen to their body and decode it’s signals without fad diets, wellness trends and gimmicks.

If I’ve learned anything working with clients and on my own wellness journey, it’s that the relationship with yourself is the most important one you will ever have. Self-care, self-love, self-compassion, and the guts to put yourself a the top of your priority list are by far the most rewarding - for yourself and for your relationships.

A FEW RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME

  • I was born in Lebanon, raised in Ottawa, Canada, studied at the University of Ottawa then worked in marketing, sales and merchandising in the consumer goods and fashion industries in Toronto, Italy and North East USA.

  • I’m a recovering perfectionist and extremely hard on myself. It has taken me a long time to say this out loud, face it, and accept that change isn’t going to happen overnight.

  • I’m not innately positive. I have to work at it. Every. Single. Day.

  • It took me a long time to acknowledge my childhood and generational trauma, the mark it left on me, how it has impacted my relationship with myself and others and how I see the world and I’ve had a little more clarity each day since that moment.

  • Becoming a mama was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It has forced me to face my demons like nothing else ever has. I’m grateful to my daughter every single day for being my guide and inspiration to be and do better.

  • I’m a Capricorn who wears her heart on her sleeve. I’m honest, genuine, kind, loving an loyal. What you see is what you get.

AND ON A LIGHTER NOTE

  • Nut butter stuffed dates bring me joy. More often than not with a square of 92% dark chocolate stuffed inside.

  • Tahini & honey are my version of peanut butter and jam.

  • Cooking, baking, ceramic painting and doing arts & crafts with my little girl are my meditation. Otherwise I can’t sit still.

ONCE YOU GET ME TALKING ABOUT THE THINGS I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT, I CAN’T STOP.
