Episode 3 What is Mindful Eating?

Welcome to episode 3 of Wellness Wednesdays Audio Series.

I’m Nissrine, registered holistic nutritionist, mindful nutrition & wellness coach and founder of holisticniss.com

I created this series to bring a fresh perspective to nutrition and wellness, one that is centered on and lead by you.

There’s a plethora of information out there and it can be really hard to know what to do and eat to feel good in your body.

It’s easy to get caught up in fad diets and wellness trends, often questioning, doubting and second guessing your decisions when it comes to the way you nourish and care for your body.

I wholeheartedly believe that; reconnecting with your own innate wisdom to know what your body needs to thrive is the first step to a life-changing transformation and true lasting wellness; and that progress is made by taking small steps, mindfully, intentionally and consistently.

In today’s episode, I want to talk about mindful eating, the essential first step in reconnecting to yourself and reawakening your innate wisdom to know what your body needs to thrive.

Mindful eating isn’t about restrictions.  It’s about paying attention to what, when, how and why you eat without judgement and criticism.  It’s about bringing your full awareness to the eating experience, from the moment you start thinking about food to the moment you start eating.

It’s a process based approach, unlike diets which are outcome based.  That means that it’s focused on habit and behaviour change over the long term.  It aims to set goals based on actions, not outcomes and focuses on the journey, not the destination.

In doing so, it encourages curiosity and self-discovery.

Unlike diets which are difficult to stick with long term, mindful eating gets easier with time and practice, until it becomes second nature.

Starting a mindful eating practice may feel challenging in the beginning.

If you’ve been dieting or on auto pilot with your eating habits, then it might even feel weird and uncomfortable to start a mindful eating practice.

That’s because it requires you to dig deep and reawaken that dormant energy inside of you - the inner knowing that you might have lost touch with, the one that tells you what, when and how much you need to eat to feel good in your body.

But as you continue on this journey, you’ll learn to eat with more awareness and presence, without having to go on another diet again and you’ll cultivate a positive and healthy relationship with food.

It’s going to help you deepen your mind body connection, it’s going to transform your relationship with food and your body for the better and it’s going to promote physical wellbeing.

If these aren’t reason enough to start a mindful eating practice, I don’t know what is.

So, I challenge YOU to start your own mindful eating practice today!
